Design Features

The BVH Goomie is two place a tandem seat, single engine, low wing, high performance sport aircraft. Comprising an all metal construction, the aircraft can be built using only simple hand tools. The fuselage is made entirely of stiffened aluminium panels. These are constructed out of 0.5mm thick 2024-T3 Aluminium.

All panels are lazer cut to size and are bonded with epoxy. Eight panels make up the basic fuselage. It is not only simple and quick to assemble, but is exceptionally strong.

The power plant can be a variety of engines from 80 to 120 HP. The initial design will use the 100 HP, Rotax 912 ULS engine .

Design fundamentals:

  • Excellent visibility for both occupants during air and ground operations.
  • Operate from hard and soft runways
  • Suitable as a trainer and observer aircraft
  • Simple all metal construction

The aircraft is a canard pusher type resulting a highly spin resitant design. The canard and main wings are contructed from metal skins bonded to closed cell foam core. The winglets are also all metal featuring independant drag airbrakes for directional control. Ailerons are actuated using a torque tube mechanism.

The wings incorporate an 2024-T3 Aluminium tapered I-Beam spar. It is an extremely strong and safe spar design. It also allows relatively simple removable wings or even the possibility of a folding wings design.

The BVH Goomie is a relatively small aircraft with a roomy cockpit and excellent visibility for both occupants. It has a 6.4 m wingspan with an overall length of 5.5 m. The empty weight is approximately 315 kg, with a gross weight of 650 kg. It can hold 100 liters of fuel and uses about 25 liters an hour.
